“I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me. Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” —Matthew 25:35-36; 40
Saint Vincent de Paul Society is a Catholic lay organization that leads men and women to join and grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering. The Society was founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam and has over 700,000 members in 142 countries. Members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. Vincentians witness God’s love in the tradition of their patron, Saint Vincent de Paul, by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.
